Yeah So week two we're excited because we're going to
-
be in Exodus chapter 2 but then kind of bleeding into Exodus Exodus uh chapter 3 And really kind of the big idea that we're going to be talking about is that often times when we talk about calling or what God God uh is is doing in your life and what he's leading you to to to impact I think that sometimes we can think of it in terms of like a burning bush moment like like we think of it as this suddenly moment But I think what we're going to to be encouraged by today as we look at the life of Moses is that uh what God does through Moses's life really starts more than extraordinary And so that's good news uh for you and I uh and so I'm excited to jump into the text today Bryson. Yeah Honestly and we explored this a little little bit last week too Just that idea of God working powerfully through the ordinary Like those are truths that so many of us need to be reminded of So I can't wait to to dive in. Yeah Well family it is going to be a great morning of worship Make sure you stick around after our service because Bryson is going to be back He's going to be live digging a little deeper into the sermon letting you know what's going on down in Franklin Um but for right now we are going to head into worship and so will Se Se church Come on Hey Hey I'm really grateful God God There was no way until you made one

Well hey my name is Lucas If we haven't met yet I have the the privilege to serve as the Blankaker campus pastor Uh we are continuing in a series uh where we're looking at an unexpected leader scripture named named Moses Last week we talked about how God often develops our faith through seasons of of waiting through
-
seasons of testing and trust And this week we're going to continue discovering how God God uses unexpected leaders to do extraordinary things in his kingdom You know a number of years ago I went on a camping camping trip at one of the campsites There was this tree where someone had carved the face of Moses into it I think we've got a picture of it here Uh the carving was etched into this giant red cedar so that the face looked like it was reflecting fire which was pretty cool Uh the owner's campsite wanted it to feel feel like a burning bush moment They're referring of course to the part of Moses's story in Exodus chapter 3 where we're going to be reading today today where God shows up in this undeniable way God speaks speaks to Moses out of a bush that's on fire but it never burns up And he ends up calling him into his life's purpose And so the owners of this property wanted this this campsite to be that kind of a place a place where you could get away where you could seek the Lord and maybe find uh some clarity about your your purpose and calling So I went there hoping for that exact experience I was at a point point in my life where I really needed direction And honestly I I was kind of hoping I know this sounds weird I was hoping that Jesus would come down sit cross-legged next to me and he'd lay out the next 10 years of my life And as you can probably guess that is not what happened I prayed I read my Bible I journaled I ate some ramen noodles And I fell asleep I
-
mean it was pretty anticlimactic for a place with Moses's face carved into a tree But as as ridiculous as my story sounds I really do think that that's the expectation a lot of us carry I think for many of us we're waiting for this burning bush bush moment We're hoping for an unmistakable sign a a dramatic experience where God shows up where he speaks audibly and makes makes everything crystal clear I don't know about you but that's just not how it's worked for me You know we tend to think calling begins begins with a singular moment a revelation like a a burning bush experience But I think what we're going to see today today is that Moses's calling didn't begin in chapter 3 at the burning bush No it actually began much earlier It began in in chap 2 2 in circumstances that looked a lot more ordinary than miraculous If you have your Bible I'd love for you to turn to Exodus chapter 2 We can pick up in verse 11 I'll read for us It says this "One day when Moses had grown up uh he went out to his people and he looked on their burdens And And so what we see here already uh is that Moses is growing up now And if we back up just for a moment we know from earlier in the chapter that Moses was born born Hebrew He was placed in a basket and pulled from the river by Pharaoh's daughter Uh she hired a nurse nurse to care for him who later out was actually his mother And once he was weaned she brought him into
-
Pharaoh's house and she raised him as as her own And so Moses grows up uh likely holding two different identities Uh he he knows he's a Hebrew He likely has memories of his family Uh maybe even some understanding of who his people are But he's also being raised inside the most most powerful household in the world And somewhere in the middle of all that Moses starts realizing that he just has this this burden for his people Now before we read any further I want you to notice something One of of the ways that God often reveals our calling is through what I like to call a holy burden The best way I know how to describe this is that it's it's it's something that you just can't shake It keeps coming back to your mind It keeps grabbing your attention Like no matter how how hard you try to move on it keeps pulling you back in And that's exactly what starts happening to Moses He goes out to his people He sees their their burden and he can't look away You know I think one of the best ways that we can identify what God may be calling us to to is by paying attention to what we can't look away from And so let me ask you this this question What breaks your heart What frustrates you What makes you sad in a way that feels deeper than just an an opinion Because often the burden that you can't look away from is is the very thing God is trying to direct you
-
toward Uh David Wilkerson was a young young pastor from rural Pennsylvania In 19 he saw a magazine article about seven teenagers on trial for murder in New York York City Something about their faces got a hold of him And so he drove drove to New York City Uh he walked into a courtroom and he pleaded with the judge to speak with the teens who were being sentenced David made such a scene scene that the judge had him removed You know most people would probably take the hint and and move on but David couldn't shake it And so he kept showing back up He started walking the streets of New York at night He was meeting gang members and addicts and teenagers who were throwing their lives away And one night night standing on those streets and only words he could describe David just broke down and he began to weep over the
Summary
The sermon series "The Unexpected Leader" continues by examining the life of Moses, specifically his call which began in ordinary circumstances rather than a sudden, extraordinary event. The message encourages listeners to recognize God's power working through their everyday lives. Practical takeaways include opportunities to connect through text, join groups, and serve in the upcoming Full Force meal pack, fostering community and spiritual growth.
