By the time of my senior year, I wasn't attending my senior year, I wasn't attending my senior year, I wasn't attending church anymore. And two months before I church anymore. Um, I ended up going to a program called Um, I ended up going to a program called Um, I ended up going to a program called Teen Challenge and I was able to Teen Challenge and I was able to Teen Challenge and I was able to complete 18 months there successfully. complete 18 months there successfully. complete 18 months there successfully. But I also never surrendered my But I also never surrendered my But I also never surrendered my depression med medication there. And depression med medication there. And within two months of graduating, I within two months of graduating, I within two months of graduating, I relapsed and went back to the same relapsed and went back to the same relapsed and went back to the same friend group. I still had the [music] friend group. I still had the [music] friend group. I still had the [music] same social media, same music choices, same social media, same music choices, same social media, same music choices, and um I fell into just a worse year and and um I fell into just a worse year and and um I fell into just a worse year and a half of abusive relationships, worse a half of abusive relationships, worse a half of abusive relationships, worse drugs, and worse scenes. In March of drugs, and worse scenes. In March of drugs, and worse scenes. In March of 2021, I met someone in my hometown in 2021, I met someone in my hometown in 2021, I met someone in my hometown in Indiana, and he promised me safety and Indiana, and he promised me safety and Indiana, and he promised me safety and security, something that I'd been security, something that I'd been security, something that I'd been looking for everywhere. But I know now looking for everywhere. But I know now looking for everywhere. But I know now that only God can promise that.

Uh, this person, he invited me to Uh, this person, he invited me to Uh, this person, he invited me to Chicago, to the city for a time of Chicago, to the city for a time of Chicago, to the city for a time of partying and a good time, and promised partying and a good time, and promised partying and a good time, and promised he would bring me back, but he never he would bring me back, but he never he would bring me back, but he never did. He began trafficking me in downtown did. He began trafficking me in downtown did. He began trafficking me in downtown Chicago for the next four months. And Chicago for the next four months. And Chicago for the next four months. And those four months were filled with those four months were filled with those four months were filled with torment and loneliness, any type of torment and loneliness, any type of torment and loneliness, any type of abuse you can think of. I was unable to abuse you can think of. I was unable to abuse you can think of. I was unable to leave and unable to make my own leave and unable to make my own leave and unable to make my own decisions. And I can only recall eating decisions. And I can only recall eating decisions. And I can only recall eating a meal two times. I was also drugged and a meal two times. I was also drugged and a meal two times. She didn't know exactly what was happening to me or but exactly what was happening to me or but exactly what was happening to me or but she knew her daughter needed help and she knew her daughter needed help and she knew her daughter needed help and [music] within her church and her prayer [music] within her church and her prayer [music] within her church and her prayer group someone told her about the Chicago group someone told her about the Chicago group someone told her about the Chicago Dream Center and how they help women get Dream Center and how they help women get Dream Center and how they help women get off the streets here in Chicago. off the streets here in Chicago. off the streets here in Chicago. So my mom reached out to the farm and to So my mom reached out to the farm and to So my mom reached out to the farm and to the director at that time and the the director at that time and the the director at that time and the director then began to send me director then began to send me director then began to send me encouragements and scriptures of the day encouragements and scriptures of the day encouragements and scriptures of the day and uh reaching out to me telling me who and uh reaching out to me telling me who and uh reaching out to me telling me who she was. And I remember getting one text she was. And I remember getting one text she was. And I remember getting one text and it said, "You know you don't belong and it said, "You know you don't belong and it said, "You know you don't belong there. You are a daughter of the most there. You are a daughter of the most there. You are a daughter of the most high God." With a rose emoji.

[applause] After that, uh the next few days, this After that, uh the next few days, this the man beat me up really badly and I the man beat me up really badly and I the man beat me up really badly and I was able to get away from him to where was able to get away from him to where was able to get away from him to where then I could wait for the director to then I could wait for the director to then I could wait for the director to come to Chicago and pick me up and take come to Chicago and pick me up and take come to Chicago and pick me up and take me to safety. I was a place where I finally felt home. I was safe both physically and was safe both physically and was safe both physically and spiritually. I could bring my cares and spiritually. I could bring my cares and my worries and trauma to the feet of my worries and trauma to the feet of my worries and trauma to the feet of Jesus where he could come in and heal Jesus where he could come in and heal Jesus where he could come in and heal me.

And to today, I'm now the director of the today, I'm now the director of the today, I'm now the director of the Chicago Dream Center. I grew up my father was uh wasn't in the picture for many of all wasn't in the picture for many of all wasn't in the picture for many of all through my childhood. uh and the through my childhood. uh and the through my childhood. uh and the memories that I did have of him were memories that I did have of him were memories that I did have of him were kind of negative. I just I felt me to be a good father. I just I felt me to be a good father. I just I felt like I was probably short-handed on like I was probably short-handed on like I was probably short-handed on that. I [music] I walked around with a that. Uh but when I started to take counsel from my when I started to take counsel from my when I started to take counsel from my mentors and uh I started to learn what mentors and uh I started to learn what mentors and uh I started to learn what it was to to know the word of God and to it was to to know the word of God and to it was to to know the word of God and to use that as a [music] as a tool to help use that as a [music] as a tool to help use that as a [music] as a tool to help me to get where I'm at today.
