The first one was Numbers chapter 13, where the scouts are chapter 13, where the scouts are chapter 13, where the scouts are encamped around the tabernacle. God says encamped around the tabernacle. Um but Numbers 13, the place of the first Numbers 13, the place of the first Numbers 13, the place of the first rebellion where the scouts are sent, rebellion where the scouts are sent, rebellion where the scouts are sent, Numbers 20 where now Moses and Aaron are Numbers 20 where now Moses and Aaron are Numbers 20 where now Moses and Aaron are going to essentially take take things going to essentially take take things going to essentially take take things into their own hands. They're not going into their own hands. They're not going into their own hands. They're not going to do what God said. They're going to to do what God said. They're going to to do what God said. They're going to take over. It happens in the exact same take over. It happens in the exact same take over. It happens in the exact same location.

We We do see this pattern little bit. We We do see this pattern little bit. We We do see this pattern throughout scripture and Moses is one of throughout scripture and Moses is one of throughout scripture and Moses is one of them of God wanting to use the word them of God wanting to use the word them of God wanting to use the word partner with a human and part partner partner with a human and part partner partner with a human and part partner with one of his children and we see with one of his children and we see with one of his children and we see failure after failure after failure.

He creates Adam and Eve and he has a partner in Adam and Eve and he has a partner in Adam and Eve and he has a partner in that garden that ultimately fails, that garden that ultimately fails, that garden that ultimately fails, right? So, then you get all kinds of right? So, then you get all kinds of right? So, then you get all kinds of partners. You get Noah. You get Abraham. partners. You get Noah. You get Abraham. partners. And so, the the unfortunate pattern that continues into unfortunate pattern that continues into unfortunate pattern that continues into this story with Moses in chapter 20 of this story with Moses in chapter 20 of this story with Moses in chapter 20 of Numbers is that the human inevitably is Numbers is that the human inevitably is Numbers is that the human inevitably is going to fail. And that cycle, not going to fail. And that cycle, not going to fail. And that cycle, not surprisingly, just continues throughout surprisingly, just continues throughout surprisingly, just continues throughout the whole of the Old Testament. And not the whole of the Old Testament. And not the whole of the Old Testament. And not to give away the end, it's not the end, to give away the end, it's not the end, to give away the end, it's not the end, it was 2,000 years ago, God really got it was 2,000 years ago, God really got it was 2,000 years ago, God really got fed up with all of the failures of the fed up with all of the failures of the fed up with all of the failures of the Old Testament. He sends his own son to be born of this He sends his own son to be born of this He sends his own son to be born of this earth, right? To be the God-man, to be earth, right? Mind-blowing, like that's God's response, so that Jesus that's God's response, so that Jesus that's God's response, so that Jesus could live this perfect life and do what could live this perfect life and do what could live this perfect life and do what none of us ever could. But, then Jesus ascends back to heaven. So, then what does God do after heaven. So, then what does God do after heaven. So, then what does God do after that? He continues to find human that? It's kind of amazing God apostles. It's kind of amazing God apostles. It's kind of amazing God continues to pursue after partners. But, continues to pursue after partners. But, what's the difference between the Old what's the difference between the Old what's the difference between the Old Testament human partners in the New Testament human partners in the New Testament human partners in the New Testament and today human partners?

Because we still fail, and yet it is Because we still fail, and yet it is Because we still fail, and yet it is Jesus that covers our failure and allows Jesus that covers our failure and allows Jesus that covers our failure and allows us not to face the same kinds of us not to face the same kinds of us not to face the same kinds of punishment that happened in the Old punishment that happened in the Old punishment that happened in the Old Testament. It's really quite beautiful Testament. It's really quite beautiful Testament. It's really quite beautiful that God, even after Jesus, still wants that God, even after Jesus, still wants that God, even after Jesus, still wants to partner with people. to partner with people. to partner with people. And um we, you know, God gives him one we, you know, God gives him one we, you know, God gives him one instruction, he does something instruction, he does something instruction, he does something different. He is disobedient. Just to different. He is disobedient. Just to different. He is disobedient. Just to put it in a completely oversimplified put it in a completely oversimplified put it in a completely oversimplified term, he's disobedient to what God says.

But instead, he just decided to let them follow him decided to let them follow him decided to let them follow him throughout the wilderness for for throughout the wilderness for for throughout the wilderness for for decades, right? Now the reality of decades, right? Now the reality of decades, right? Now the reality of humans is that we still need we still humans is that we still need we still humans is that we still need we still need food. We still need water. We still need food. We still need water. We still need food. We still need water. We still need the basic essentials of life. So I need the basic essentials of life. So I need the basic essentials of life. So I don't believe that God was being don't believe that God was being don't believe that God was being dismissive of their actual needs.

What's kind of amazing though, this What's kind of amazing though, this What's kind of amazing though, this chapter, Numbers 20, chapter, Numbers 20, chapter, Numbers 20, uh we didn't even really touch on it, uh we didn't even really touch on it, uh we didn't even really touch on it, but you know, Miriam dies in the first but you know, Miriam dies in the first but you know, Miriam dies in the first verse and then we didn't teach it in the verse and then we didn't teach it in the verse and then we didn't teach it in the text, but if you go to the end of text, but if you go to the end of text, but if you go to the end of chapter 20, Aaron dies. So, two of the chapter 20, Aaron dies. So, two of the chapter 20, Aaron dies.
