We're going to be serving communion. We   have lots [music] of things to pray about. But  uh and I'll give you some more praise reports. That's my bad, Ray. I'm sorry. Um, [music] we  want to just give a initial prayer report here   during we have two wonderful retreats. Uh,  the one retreat for the children BT kids was   amazing. [music] The kids met God. The kids  experienced the presence of the Lord and the   Sanctus the Sanctus retreat which followed  right on after it was great reports people   received Christ who came didn't know the Lord  um one uh young lady she might be here tonight   I hope she is [music] but I just learned of her  testimony she came not believing in Christ she   uh young woman from Trinidad and God had it just  it was an amazing story how he put everything   together and there was someone who wanted to pray  for her also from Trinidad and it turned out they   went to school together 20some years ago or  whatever. So God is good. Also there was a  

little health scare with one of our workers wives  but God brought her through. She's back at work   today. Can we just give God a hand clap of praise?  Praise. Praise. Praise. Praise. Praise. Petitions, things  that we want to bring and lay before you even   as your word said, casting all our cares upon  you because you love us so much. So, we're your   children. We're coming to you, Father, [music]  with needs and petitions and intercessions. So,   teach us how to pray tonight. Help us. Help me,  Lord. And then we're going to remember your death   until you come again, Jesus, [music] and anoint  the choir. Anoint everything that goes on here   today. May you look down. I know you're looking  down, Lord. May you be happy. May you smile. And   while they're cursing you all over this city,  may you know that in this building, we love you   and we honor your name, Lord. We treasure your  name, Lord. [applause] We honor you. Everybody take your communion and um  there he is. Yeah. And uh get ready uh to   take back the bread part. But first, Pastor  Brian is going to pray for the communion   cup and bread. We're remembering the Lord's  death until he comes again. He died for our   sins. He's coming back to take us home. All in  favor, say, "Amen." Pray, my brother. Fathers,   we're reminded tonight of the truth of what that  song declared. We're a people who stand in your   presence tonight. We know that we're sinners, but  we're so much more. We're your children that have   been [music] bought the blood of your son. For  that, we are so thankful. We thank you tonight   for judgment that's been taken. [music] We  thank you that because Jesus was broken,   even as we break this bread, we celebrate the  [music] fact that he took our place. He took  

the judgment that we deserved. And God, [music]  as we celebrate not just the breaking of blood,   but the pouring out of blood, we thank you tonight  that that [music] life that was given for us was   perfect. And even though we aren't perfect, what  [music] Jesus has done, that account that was   given to us has made us perfect in your sight.  And we praise you tonight for that. Who are we   that you would be mindful of us in that way? Who  are we that you would lavish us with such kindness   and mercy? But God, tonight, even as we prepare  to [music] take this, we search our hearts. God,   we all know that even in the struggle of living in  a fallen world, we fall short. But Lord, tonight   we're celebrating not what we do, but what you've  done. Amen. And as we celebrate that, God, would   you allow the truth of what we do as we celebrate  this to be made alive inside. [music] Give us,   Lord, an awareness of what's been done so  that we can not just live in peace with you,   so that we can be filled with what Jesus shed his  blood for. [music] That we would know your life,   know your love, and walk in it in a way  that honors you and glorifies you in all   that we do. Help us toward that end in Jesus  [music] name. Let's take the bread together.

Well, we're going to be praying  for the choir in a little while because   they have been such a blessing to us and you  know, um, yeah, we'll applaud later what they,   you know, they're human beings like us, brother.  They're brothers and sisters in Christ. They   have their struggles. They have their problems.  But we tell them before they come in the choir,   they'll all witness to this after they're  vocal tested and Carol interviews them and   Sue interviews them. Pastor Brian does some,  and there's a new group coming in now soon. We  

then tell them, "Look, we're here to minister  to the people. We're not here for ourselves.   what a person does out in the pew we have are  the seats we have no control someone could   want to sleep someone could read the New York  Times I've had that happen in the service and   um we can't control that we have to hope we can  reach them but you can't do that you can't be in a   mood the people can be in a mood we cannot be in a  mood we have to give out. We have to pray and get   enough grace from God to minister to the people.  To sit is one thing. To minister is another. And I   think um we've always Carol's always been blessed  with great choirs but and people but this group   is as good as it ever gets. And I was thinking we  could hear from a couple just briefly to share.   What does it mean to them to be in the choir and  stand in front of you and minister to you? So,   we're going to have Peggy come first. Put your  hands together from Peggy. [applause] Peggy.

Um, good evening everyone. U, my name is Peggy  and um, I'm one of the newer members of this   choir. I joined. I think it's been about two  and a half years. And um I've I you know,   the only chance I ever came that I ever had  to come here was on New Year's Eve because I   was singing at my other church at the time for  a very very long time before coming over this   way. But it has been such a tremendous blessing.  Um you know there's when we say let everything   that has breath praise the Lord. and we are  praising the Lord. And just like pastor said,   you know, we all have gone through very difficult  times in different seasons. And I'm certainly   um there's some seasons that I can think of right  now. And for me being in the choir and I've been   in choirs since I was in college and then at  my other church and now here it has, you know,   the Lord has really encouraged me so much through  the songs and I never take any of the songs that   we sing for granted because it is the word of God.  Amen. It is the word of God. It is it it reminds   us who he is and that he is our healer. He is our  savior. He is our provider. He is our defender.

He is all of these things. He is our peace. And  so I'm so grateful to be a part of this choir now.   Um, you know, when I think of Pastor Jim and Carol  and um the incredible songs that the Lord has   birthed through Carol over so many years, I I just  count it such a such an honor and such a privilege   to be able to sing these songs. So beautiful.  It touches me every time. every time Amy sings,   anytime um some of our other um soloist sings,  it's such a joy, such a privilege to to hear it.   Um just a little bit about my own um how you know  I got saved when I was 16 years old and I always   felt like my voice was stuck in my throat and I  had such a desire to praise the Lord and I love um   the freedom and the worship of gospel style music  especially and I was like Lord please I I want   to be able to sing. I want to be able to worship  with my whole whole being. My whole being. And so   my first opportunity, I mean, I sang at church and  whatever in the choir, it wasn't that serious. Um,   but you know, in college and then in in church,  the Lord just opened up my voice. You know,   there are some of us who have been born with  incredible voices and then there are some of us  

who prayed for the voice. And I prayed for the  voice. There are some who have no voice. Let's   include that. Yeah. So the, you know, I prayed  for it and the Lord saw fit to give it to me. I   can't I'm not one of those people you put me out  there and I can just sing a solo like that. It's   like the Lord has to be the one to give it to me  to anoint me to produce the sound. [applause] And   so for all of you, some of you maybe the Lord  has given you a voice and maybe some of you   need to ask and don't be afraid to ask because  the Lord is more than able and it's his desire   that we praise him. So, you know, I just pray that  you are encouraged. I'm so grateful and um thank   you so much, pastor. You are such an incredible  example. The fact that your stamina, you know,   it's it's inspiring. It truly is. It truly is.  So, thank you so much. Thank you. [applause] Now, we got to act strong a lot here. DD, come  up here, DD. Let's hear it for our brother DD.   Amen. [applause] God, we serve a God who is  impartial. He gives grace to anyone regardless   where you from, what you have done. He he gives  grace to anybody. He is entirely sincere and his   promise is assure. Being part of this choir  reminds me of the story of Kingo in 1 Samuel  

chapter 10 right after he was anointed king.  Samuel said that as you go out on your way,   you will meet a community of prophets. And it  just so happened when he came in contact with   that group of prophets, the spirit of God came  upon him and he began to prophesy. Being with this   man and woman of God that standing right behind  me, more than just prophet, there are worshippers.   And it so radically changed my heart to see  how to walk with a sensitive heart with a   humble trust before God. And he has changed  my heart. He has changed my life. And they   have impacted me in ways that I've never  expected before. When I came to the choir,   I was broken. I was struggling in so many aspect  financially. I was struggling with housing and   and it was in that darkest moment of my life.  I heard I was sitting on the balcony. Pastor   simply gave the announcement. We're looking  for men to sing in a choir. And I was like,   "This is not for me." It was right in  that moment I heard God says, "Go for it."

I thought I had to fix my life  first before I got in the choir,   but God said, "I will see you through it  as you sing for me." Good word. [applause] So, it was God plan that he was going to use  the choir. I thought I was just going to stand   here to sing, but God was ministering to me  through these people. As the scripture says,   who refreshes other will be refreshed himself.  I've had people like Leonard Daniel speak into my   life in ways that have changed me and transformed  me and I can only praise God as I stand here and   I can only thank God for the great thing that he  has done. And I know the work that he has begun,   he will see it through and he will  finish it. Praise God. [applause] [applause]   So, um, they're going to sing a a song  Carol and I heard and Carol loves it   and they begin to sing it now and I  think it's one of our favorites. So,   uh, Pedro is going to come and sing. Let's  welcome Pedro, shall we? Iana [applause]

[music] Jesus,  we praise you. Thank you for them,   Lord. Strengthen them, bless them, protect  [music] them, lead them, guide them, Lord.

[music] [music]   Lord, I stand here tonight representing the congregation and I want to thank you, God, that they said  Yes. To [music] the calling to sing. Yes, Lord.

God, I thank you for Carol. I thank you for every song that you've  given her. Those nights that you woke   her up in the middle of the night and you  gave her a tune. You gave her the words.   And [snorts] those worries have gone  throughout this world bringing healing. For that we say thank you God. So many of us in this building and those  watching online there was a day that we were   driving in a car, sleeping in our bed. We  couldn't sleep and we turned on the music   and you began to speak. Yes, Lord. You  spoke, oh God. And the songs have been   like sermons to our souls and for that we  say thank you Jesus. [music] [applause] How many times God have we put a song on and  you have convicted us. How many times we did   not know where to turn to and you rescued us.  Amen. How many times did we listen to a song   to be reminded that the blood of Christ  still is strong? And for that we say,   "Thank you, God. Thank you, Lord." How  many times have we listened to He's been  

faithful. And every time we listen to  it, it's like we've listened to it for   the first time. And tonight we say you have  been faithful, oh God. You have been faithful. So God, we want more of you tonight. God, I pray  that you would give Carol new songs. Oh God,   I pray that you would wake her up  in the middle of the night. Oh God,   give us songs that will go throughout this  world, reaching the lost and the hurting. Oh God, I [music] thank you, God, that every time  a song has been sung, it has not been sung   so that we can feel good. It has been sung to  bring conviction and remind us who Christ is.   So I thank you for that tonight. But God,  tonight I want to thank you for the choir   and every musician. Every God, you see the  hours that they rehearse on Wednesday night.   You see the sacrifice. Oh God, you see when they  wake up early Sunday morning. You've seen when   they stood up here and maybe they're weak in  their bodies and maybe they have not felt well,   but you have given them the strength for that.  I say thank you, God. Thank you, God. Thank you,  

God. [music] [applause] God, I know that each and  every one of these choir members and musicians,   they face obstacles and they face struggles and  they have challenges. But in this in spite of   all of that, they have persevered and they have  pushed through. Oh God, God, I thank you that   every Sunday that we walk into this building, we  know that we will not be entertained, but we will   be ministered to, oh God. And for that, I say  thank you, God. Thank you, Lord. God, I thank   you that now as they minister on a Sunday, it is  not contained to the four walls of this building,   but it is going around the world proclaiming  the gospel of Jesus Christ. And for that, I say,   glory be to the name of God. [music] So God, I'm  asking you tonight, would you bless them? Oh God,   bless them. bless. Would you give them a double  po portion of your anointing, oh God, God? You   know every prayer request. You know every dream,  every desire. We lay it at the foot of the cross   tonight. And I ask you, have your way, oh God.  Have your way. Have your way, oh God. [music] And  

God, I ask you that as they pour out, may you  pour into them a double portion of your blessing. And Lord, I'm asking you tonight,  I thank you for what you have done,   but we are not satisfied. Would you do  more and more and more, God? [music] And Lord, I thank you that as they  minister, yes, they're singing to us,   oh, but they're singing to you, God. They're  singing to you because they're thanking   you [music] where you took them from and what you  have done and what you will do in their lives. So I come against the lies of the enemy  that may bring thoughts of why are you   doing this? Why are you sacrificing so much?  Your prayers have not been answered. Choir,   I tell you tonight in the name of the Lord,  the Lord sees your prayers and the Lord will   answer every petition. [applause]  Reclaim it in the name of Jesus.

God, I pray for Susie as she leaves a  rehearsal and directs. Give her wisdom.   Give her insight. Give her direction.  Oh God, show her what she needs to do. God, I remember the nights that I would be alone  and hopeless and [snorts] all I would do is put   a song on. Oh Jesus. And you would speak, oh  God. God, would you speak again and again and   again and again, oh God? [music] [applause] There  may be some that may not listen to a sermon. Oh,   but God, I say that when they put on a song, speak  to the choir. Oh God, speak to the choir. And God,   I ask you that the greatest days will be ahead  of us. Lord, I thank you for what you've done.   But tonight, [laughter] I want to thank you  for what you're going to do. You're going   to do wonderful things, oh God. [music] You're  going to do wonderful things. [applause] And God,   I'm asking you one last thing. I pray that as  they begin to sing, oh God, that those that   are sick in their bodies will be healed. Oh God,  Lord, heal people from cancer. Heal marriages,  

oh God. Those that are struggling in their mind,  I pray that you would set them free, oh God. And God, let the choir be reminded  that their labor for the Lord is not   in vain. It is not in rain, oh God.  And one day when we get to eternity,   they will be able to see the fruit of their labor.  And we will say to God be the glory. congregation,   would you lift up your voice and give God  the glory tonight for what he has done? Oh,   to God be the glory. To God be the glory.  [music] To God be the glory. [applause] And Lord, I pray that when the choir leaves at  the end of the day, they will leave different   than the way they came in. They may have come  in weak [music] and tired, but they will be   strengthened in the name of the Lord. So tonight,  we lift up their arms. We lift up their heads to   you and we say, "Oh God, speak Lord. Do what  you can only do." And we will say, "Look what   the Lord has done." It's in Jesus' name that we  pray. Amen. Amen. And amen. Amen. [applause] See, this is a typical meeting.  We've been sitting, they've been standing since   the first time, this first moment of the meeting.  That's what happens to them. And when they record,   it gets even longer. I remember my wife coming  home one day at 10 after 2 10 to 2 in the morning.   They've been recording the whole night. Her arms  were she could hardly lift them. They were so sore   from all their stuff. We really appreciate you.  But now you will go and be seated. [music] Go   to your seats. Let's hear it one more time  for the choir. [applause] [music] How many   of you have a card uh one of these prayer  cards? I have a very interesting one. Just   wave it at me if you have one. If you don't  have one, lift up your hand. Deacon Fred and   Deacon Ron and Deacon whoever it will get to  you and give you one of these cards. Okay, you know what mine says? Listen to this. Pray for  salvation for Benny and for his family to forgive   him. And guess who sent it in? Benny. Listen  again. [music] Pray for salvation for Benny   and for his family to forgive him. See, there's  a story there, isn't there? But listen to what   your praying has done. These just [music] came in  recently. Our prayer coordinator here, Angeline,  

gives me these. Now, this is for today from all  around the country. Started out as this. Now,   they're praising God. Brooklyn Tabernacle. Praise  the Lord. My brother is growing spiritual and   getting stronger. Thank you for praying for him.  Praise the Lord. After first showing serious heart   defects, my niece's unborn baby now has health  healthy CT scans. Praise the Lord. That's from   Robin. Praise the Lord. I received a phone call  from a family member we needed to reconcile with.   I thank God that he has answered this prayer.  God bringing people back together. Praise the   Lord. We had lost an irrigation well, but Jesus  provided more money than we needed to replace   it. We are so thankful. An irrigation well. They  don't live on Fulton Street. I know that much. Uh   an irrigation well that's out there. Praise the  Lord. My brother Kevin has been healed of cancer   from Mary. Thank God for that. Praise the Lord.  He opened doors for me to secure housing. You see,   these are all down to real life requests. Praise  the Lord. I finished my last round of chemo and   at a recent and a recent PET scan showed all the  tumor sites were healed. Thank you for praying,   Brooklyn Tabernacle. And now, [applause] see,  this is real. This is important here. Praise   the Lord. I sent in a request. He has  provided a good tenant for my apartment.  

If you have an apartment, how many know you need  a good tenant? Oh, yeah. A bad tenant is headache   number 85, right? And mine today that God knew I  had was pray for salvation for Benny and for his   family to forgive him. And it's from Benny. Ain't  that something? Deacon Daniel, come on up here.   You'll pray with me. Everybody stand. If you're  a man, find a male partner. If you're a woman,   find a woman partner. Talk to each other. Read  to each other what your card says. [music] And   then begin to pray out loud. One goes first,  then the other goes. Come on. Men ought always   to pray. Choir, you don't have to stand. [music] You may be seated. [music] The card is for you  to take home. Don't leave it. Take it with you.   I heard incredible reports what happened in the  children's lives at BT Kids. Uh so we thank God   for that. Hundreds over 300 kids. How many? Two  250 children. 9 through 14 13 and the seed was   sown and a lot of them have come back 10 11  12 years old said that they experienced the   presence of the Lord in the meetings it wasn't  just fun and games and James brought up a good   point at the pastor's time together today in our  prayering praying together he said we need to pray   that God will water that seed that was planted  in the children ditto for the sanctus retreat.   There were over 320 30 kids, young people up there  [music] and some were led to Christ for the first   time. Others were strengthened. Pastor Ron Brown  did a phenomenal job, I understand, preaching and   ministering. But again, the parable of the swer  and the seed is it the the some of the seed falls   on the roadside and the birds of the air come and  take it. Jesus said that's Satan robbing the word   of God from people's hearts. Other falls on rocky  ground. There's there's life, but it doesn't last   long because there's no depth of soil. Others fall  on the thorn thorny ground and that's the cares of  

life and the pursuit of riches and it comes in and  it chokes the word. It's an amazing thing [music]   that even though it's the word of God, it can be  thwarted if we're not careful to keep the ground   nice and clean and good. Amen. The good soil  bears fruit a hundfold sometimes. [music] So we   want to pray that God will bless every sanctus  attendee and every one of those [music] young   children that were there. You may remain seated s  pray my brother Jesus [music] first we thank you   for every prayer that went forward for a child or  for a saint this age person. We thank you for all   the monies that were donated for the retreats in  the camp. [music] We thank you that you heard our   prayers. That is so evident to us. We thank you  that your spirit moved in such a mighty mighty   way. I can only imagine how glad your heart was  when you saw children 9 to 13 calling on the name   of Jesus finding victory, finding chains broken,  knowing that they don't have to live in shame,   knowing that they don't have to live under  a cloud, but that there is freedom and there   is hope in Jesus. We thank you for every young  adult who came unsure, who came not knowing who   you were, [music] who came with maybe a grievance  toward you, and they were able to leave knowing   that they are loved by Jesus, knowing there is  hope and freedom and salvation in Jesus. And God,  

we thank you for what you did, but we ask for  more. We pray oh Lord God that you would blow your   breath of life into every seed that there would  be fruit that is seen this week, next week, next   month. As long as you tar God, we pray that the  work that you started, the work that you did last   week with the children and with the young adults  that it would grow and it would move and it would   minister. Father, I pray that in schools next  month, teachers and administrators will be shocked   at what's happening in the classrooms. That there  will be a revival all around this city, all around   this state. God, that in in colleges, young adults  will be worshiping and starting Christians clubs   and and preaching and sharing testimonies and just  sharing the gospel and saying, "Look what the Lord   has done. Father, there is no limit to what you  can do. We don't put a limit. we don't confine   that to one week and one weekend. We thank you for  what you did. Now breathe the breath of life into   it. And we pray that every seed that was planted  [music] would grow into something beautiful that   you can use. A a a trophy of your grace and  your goodness that people might see lives that   were changed and hearts that were mended [music]  and relationships restored and people who were   walking in darkness now turn toward the light.  Father, we believe this. We know that you are   able. You didn't give us this week for no [music]  reason. You didn't invest with the young adults   for no reason. You did this for your kingdom,  for your name's sake. That your name would be  

lifted up and glorified. That people everywhere  might know there is a God in heaven. His name is   Jesus. And he hears and he answers prayer. That  there is nothing that's too hard for him. Father,   I know some of the stories that the parents  shared before the kids came and they were at   the end of their ropes. They thought that it was  impossible but there is nothing impossible with   Jesus. We thank you Lord God. Thank you Jesus.  You moved in such a beautiful mighty way. People   would count out children. They would count out  young adults and say it's impossible. But God   we thank you that your name is greater. Lord your  name is Father. Your blood has healed. Your blood   has cured. [music] Your blood has transformed.  Their chains have been broken because of what   you've done. Jesus. We took communion today  and we never forget your sacrifice because of   what you did on the cross. Children have life  today. Young adults have life today. So we   thank you and we pray that this would just be the  beginning of a new season of a revival. Father,   use the people in this church, not for the name  of the church, but for the name of Jesus. God,   we pray, oh God, that the ministries, BT kids,  [music] BTM, saints will be different from now on.   May this be a new season in the work that you're  doing. We pray, oh God, that you would put it on   the on the hearts of children to pray for the  unsaved parents that you put on the hearts of   young adults to pray for their siblings, to pray  for their bosses, to pray for their professors.   God, we know that you can use them for your glory.  So do this, oh God, that your name might be lifted  

up, Jesus. Thank you for [music] what you've  done. Thank you for who you are. Thank you for   loving us so well in such a mighty way. Thank  you that you've heard our prayers. And thank   you that this means more to you than it does  even to us. [music] That every seed that was   planted is for the furtherance of your kingdom.  Do this that the name of Jesus might be glorified   everywhere. In your precious and holy name we  pray. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. [applause and music] And Lord bless and help our offering and our  giving end of summer. So many things happening.   Preparation for school, money for retreats  and everything, Lord. But the bills, God,   keep coming to us and we have to pay them. And  you've supplied all these years. Do it again. Do   it again. Bring money from the north, the south,  the east, the west, from the congregation, from   online, whether it's given tonight in the lobby  or whether they give online. God, let me be able   to give another praise report. Oh, how many times  have I said it, Lord, that we called on your name   and you heard and you answered. Help us meet every  special need we have in Jesus' [music] name. Amen.

Amen. Those kids had such a good time at that  retreat. Um, some of them were not in agreement   how good the food was. But um my granddaughter, my  granddaughter Charlotte, Pastor Petri's daughter   um her BFF is Nenah, my associates's um daughter  Anna Grace. And they were in my office and I said,   "So, how was the retreat?" "Oh, Pap, it was so  good. It was so good." And I said, "So tell me   the truth, Charlotte. On a scale of 1 to 10,  how was the food?" And she went, "Minus 1,000. It's the truth." So Anna Grace is next to her  and I go, "Anna Grace, what do what did you   feel? How was it?" And she went, "Actually,  I liked it a lot. I actually I liked it."

So I want to leave this with you. It's  apt. I think it's appropriate with   the choir here and all that's  we've been going praying for. When there's a revival in a person's life, God  stirring the fire, getting the fire higher,   hotter, or when there's a revival in a church  where things have been dull and and nobody   converted and, you know, dry and no prayer,  no love, and then God comes and revives it and   there's changes or historically there are times  times when there's been revivals that extended   beyond even a city. They were countrywide and the  fire just caught and the Holy Spirit just moved   and and there those you read the accounts of those  times. They're really marvelous to read. They stir   your hunger. There was a great awakening here in  day times of the colonies. There was a revival   in 1859 in our country. There was um one uh in  England in Wales at the turn of the century 1900.   There's been these revivals that have spread out  and the meetings are different, the preaching is  

different. Um the re reaction is different, the  manifestations are different. But always people   want to get closer to Jesus and converts are made.  Whenever there's a true moving of the Holy Spirit,   God's going to use his people to spread the  gospel and have converts made. Amen. So when   there's just like an insular, self-contained, oh,  we just want to have good meetings and feel good.   That's not what God has in mind when he sends  his Holy Spirit to us. We want to reproduce   ourselves. Amen. sheep, reproducing sheep.  More about that when we get into the month   of September. And I have some things I want to  show you. But one of the signs in every revival,   personal or church or spreading out in the  country, is this. People start to sing. All revivals have brought new songs written,  composed, new praises to Jesus. The church   begins to sing. It used to be just dull and  dry and no one really into it. But now people   are lifting their voices and singing. And it's  singing from the heart. It's not performance.   In fact, the revival that happened in  Wales, they would have meetings that   sometimes would last four hours long and  three hours were just singing praises to  

Jesus. But such singing that when people walked  in, they broke down, they got convicted and got   saved through the songs. In other words,  like Pastor Bergos so beautifully prayed,   the songs can be like a sermon. And music is  something that's precious to God. He invented it.   So sometimes our religion gets dry and  intellectual only and we're just studying d   doctrines which have their uh place obviously but  we lose that touch of the Holy Spirit that stirs   our hearts where we begin to make music in our  hearts to the Lord. So you remember that when they   crossed the Red Sea and they had that victory,  Miriam led her women out and they were singing and   dancing and carrying on. And when David was going  to build the temple, he couldn't build it himself.   He was going to have Solomon build it. But he  build it. But he said to Solomon, "Now look here,   you got to do according to what I'm telling you.  I need three choirs or four choirs. This is what   the Levites do. They sing. Now I've invented  some instruments and I want those instruments   played when the people are singing. I want  singing all the time. When you come together   you sing and you have choirs to help you sing. But  making melody in our heart music to the Lord is   a very special thing. And I'm glad Peggy said  what she said about some have natural voices,   others pray and others we make a joyful noise to  the Lord. Shall we shall we just leave it at that?  

So there's this one verse I want to leave with  you and I want to challenge you to think about   it because it has a lot to do also with answered  prayer. In Colossians we have this verse. Let the   peace of Christ rule in your hearts since as  members of one body you were called to peace   and be thankful. Hold that there for a second.  Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.   I want to just mention this to you. The word there  for rule is a Greek word that means let it be an   umpire. Let it be the referee. What does that  mean? Let the peace of Christ be the referee   in your heart for what's wrong, what's right.  You're praying about something. Is it left or   right? I'm not speaking going beyond the word.  The word tells us what's right and wrong. But   then there's choices in life when you're not sure.  Am I really being called to do this? Should I do   that? I'm not sure. And when God doesn't give  you peace, that peace is the referee that says,   "Don't do it." And when the peace comes, you  know, I'm moving out in faith. I have peace.   How many understand what I'm talking about? Just  lift your hand. So, let the peace of of God, peace   of Christ, referee, since as members of one body,  you were called to peace. There's nothing worse   than a church that has people fighting. Better  to be in a in a crack house than in a church   where there's fussing and fighting because out on  the street you're ready for anything. But in the  

church to have people slandering, gossiping,  fighting with each other, it's something that   should never even be named. How many say amen to  that? Because God has called us to peace. So there   are some people who may stir up trouble. Wherever  you put them, they're going to stir up trouble.   They're going to stir up trouble. We had one woman  many, many decades ago, decades ago in the choir.   She was a nice lady. She loved the Lord, but she  made trouble wherever she went. They'd shift her,   Carol would shift her to another place. She'd get  in fights with the with the sopranos that were   around her there. Then we'd move her over there.  She would fight. Even if she was all alone in a   tunnel, she would have a fight with the tunnel or  herself. In other words, they're just just always   dripping with nasty sentences and words and  little insults and and all that. But God says,   "I don't want that in my house. I want peace. I'll  give you peace in your heart. Now, you maintain   peace among each other. Endeavor to keep the  unity of the spirit in the bond of peace. Wherever   there's fussing and frighting, there's pride  and there's going to be trouble because the Holy   Spirit is grieved when we fight with each other.  But here's the part I wanted to give you. That was   just a little appetizer. Here's the main course.  Let the message of the word of Christ dwell among   you richly as you teach and admonish one another  with all wisdom through psalms and hymns and songs  

from the spirit. Notice the capital S. Singing  to God with gratitude in your hearts. Now,   this is a command from the Apostle Paul writing  to a church he had never gone to. He didn't start   the church in Colasse, but he knew about it and  they respected him. He said, 'Now let the word   of Christ, that could mean either could I have my  Bible there, uh Sandra, that could mean either the   gospel message or the word that Christ has spoken  to your heart. Let the word of Christ, either the   message about Christ or those words that the Lord  gives us, how many have ever received a word from   the Lord in your heart and you knew it was from  the Lord. So now let that message dwell among you   richly. He's always using that abundance word.  Don't don't have a little of the word of God in   you. Have a lot. Fill your life with the word of  God. Did you know if you fill your life with the   word of God, it'll chase out all kinds of things  that bothering you right now. They'll have no room   to stay. When the word of Christ is filling up  all the space, how can how can bad things get in   there? Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.  Notice this was written to a church, not to a   pastor. As you teach and admonish one another, so  believers are supposed to teach and encourage and   even correct sometimes one another. It's exactly  what the man prayed here, Pastor Bergos. Sometimes  

the songs have been cutting. Sometimes they've  been encouraging, but they've been teaching us   things. So he says, "Now as you dwell in unity,  teach and admonish one another with all wisdom   that comes from the Holy Spirit." And what will be  the vehicle of the teaching and the encouragement?   With psalms and hymns and songs that come  from the Holy Spirit. Some of you weren't   aware of that verse. The church is supposed to be  built up by preaching and teaching. Absolutely.   But the purpose of music is that when people  sing with all of their heart and sing the   word of Christ, they can teach and build up one  another. Amy gets up there and sings, "Thank you,   Jesus, for the blood applied." I saw how all of  you reacted. I wasn't preaching. No preacher was   there. She was singing the sermon. Amen. Jesus  is all I need. And then a thousand other songs.   But notice this isn't to a choir. This is to  one another. That early church was a singing   church. When any whenever someone is full of the  Holy Spirit, they will be singing. When they're   depressed and sad and you can't get a peep out  of them, something has to something's missing in   their lives. God wants us to be a singing church,  a happy church. Singing encouragement. Notice   psalms that usually means uh with the accompany  uh with an instrument like in the Old Testament  

hymns, sacred compositions and songs from the  spirit. The King James and other translations   have a poor rendering of that. They make the word  spirit a small s like it's so you know spiritual   songs. What does that mean spiritual songs? No,  it's when Paul uses that word in that context,   he means songs from the Holy Spirit. The Holy  Spirit can give you a song. The Holy Spirit   can give you a song and you can start to sing it.  You say, "But I don't know if it's good." I don't   care if it's good. Sing it. If the Holy Spirit  gave it to you, sing it. Sing it in front of   people. Sing it to other people. Sing songs you  already know. Sing to one another. Convey truth   to one another. Those congrea congregations  must have meetings filled with music because   notice what Paul says. Speak to one another,  admonish one another, teach one another with   all wisdom how through psalms and hymns and songs  from the spirit. Singing to God with gratitude in   your hearts. So I just want to end with this  last thought. Singing with singing to God with   gratitude in your heart. Brother, if you would  play. He is fairer than the lily of the valley.

When we sing, and that's how God, I think, uses  the choir a lot. And it's been taught by my wife,   continued by Sue. They're not singing for you.  They're singing to him. Don't you notice that?   When you were watching them tonight, do you think  they were performing for you? All due respect,   they could care less about what you enjoy about  the music. They're singing to the Lord. So,   I went during the pandemic to churches in Florida.  My wife and I uh for the first time because we   were stranded there 16 months. We would go to  church, you know, hold hands and go to church,   sit together in church. We hadn't done that since  I was in junior high school or whatever. And so,   we're in the services in these churches in  Florida. And my wife would bump me and go, "Jim,   look." And the worship team is up in the front and  four or five and they're moving and gesticulating   and getting into it, which is whatever. And uh  she said, "Look at the congregation in one place,   guaranteed 90% of the people weren't singing,  maybe 10%, they didn't even know the song. Do you   think that that the group cared that they knew the  song?" No. They were performing. It was concert   time. But when we worship God, we're all supposed  to be singing. Not the people up here. When when   um Pedro just said, "Come on, lift lift  your voice." And we start started singing,   "He is all I need." Then we're all singing to God.  God is the audience. Singing. You took my verse,  

sister. Singing to God. Singing to God. Don't  sing so the person can hear you right next to you.   Don't sing because everyone else is singing.  Sing to God. When you play that keyboard,   when you do whatever you do over there, do it to  God. I'm doing this for you, God. I'm playing the   bass for you. Come on. Can we say amen to  that? Singing to God. [applause and music] Singing to God. That seems so simple, but  it's not so easy. We We're self-conscious.   We get distracted easily. But Paul says,  "Here's what I want you to do. encourage   each other with psalms and hymns and  spiritual songs. Singing to God. Singing   to God. Not only conveying things to people,  but singing to God. God is listening. God,   I'm singing this to you. I don't care what anyone  else is doing around me. I You deserve my highest   praise. You deserve my best song. My best song.  I'm giving it to you, God. Don't you want to   do that? Don't you want to be free to do that?  Singing to God. Notice with gratitude. Singing   to God in the church. We should be singing wi  to God with gratitude. And someone says, "No, we   need to study the Bible more." There's a time for  that. No, there's time for prayer intercessory.   Absolutely a time for that. We've been praying  for people. But then there's a time when it's  

just right to sing to the Lord with gratitude in  your heart. Come on. Don't we all have something   to thank God for today? Can you clap loud if you  feel that way? Sing with gratitude to God. To   God. Don't sing because you're being coerced  to sing. Sing with gratitude to God. Notice with your heart. Don't sing with this [music]  and don't even sing with this and that. That's   important. But sing with this. Sing. Sing with  all your heart to God. I'm reminding you. Listen,   we were in a bunch of churches. Hardly  anyone sang. You know, Joseph Habank said,   I say this to the glory of God. The singer  that was here Sunday and we went out and we   were talking and he said, "You know that sound?" I  said, "What sound?" He said, "You know the sound,   the people in your church." I was saying to him  how blessed I am to have you as a congregation.   And he said, "Listen, I travel all around the  whole country and I'm in every kind of church,   hundred some churches a year." He said, "No one  sings louder than your church. Do you train them?   How do you do that?" Other people have asked me,  "Do you have does Carol give singing lessons?" No.   When the spirit is on a person, they sing with  their heart with gratitude to the Lord. They   don't care what anyone thinks. They don't care if  they're on the note. They could be off the note.  

They don't care. They're singing. Try to be on the  note. How many say amen? But sing with your heart   to the Lord. But I'm not of that disposition. One  time I married a couple decades ago and we were I   was doing all the weddings, all the funerals, all  the counseling [music] and the couple got married   and the they were going over the ceremony and I  said, "Okay, so what are we going to do?" And they   the guy said the the groom said, "While you're  doing the ceremony, before you give communion,   I'd like to sing a love song to my wife, my  bride." And I went, "Really?" He said, "Yeah." And I went, "I've never done one of those. Can you  sing?" "Oh, yeah, I can sing." I said, "Is it okay   with you, bride?" "Yes, if that's what he wants  to do." Wasn't a good idea. I should have tried to   stop them. No. So, what happened was I was right  here in the other building. right here and the   altar was the thing and he's there and she's there  and we do the rings and we whatever and uh now   it comes time he's going to sing and he turns to  her and looks at her. Well, that first of all the   nerves for that, right? you need a nerve to and  there's you know 150 200 people there and he went

and he starts singing with a pavarati  opera voice like what happened here   she broke down immediately and just started  going listen I bit my lip until I almost drew   blood because I didn't want to laugh the  whole front rows of the church were like pero it didn't work out but he was singing with  all his heart listen he was sing if he could   sing that way to his bride how ought we to sing to  Jesus Christ amen so last thought [applause] last   thought sometimes You can pray your way out  of faith when God wants you to sing. Listen, there are times in the Bible that when you pray,   God gives you an assurance that he's  heard you and he's going to answer.

Other times, you got to keep praying. But there  are certain prayers and certain things happened   with my daughter, oldest girl. We prayed one  night in a prayer meeting and God assured   me. It happened with that money that came in $6  million. I was in Argentina and God as real as I'm   standing here spoke to my heart and said, "Stop  praying. You got it. I'm going to take care of   this for you." Haven't you ever had an assurance  like that from God that some are up in the air,   you keep praying, but if God has given you an  assurance that he's going to help you. If you   keep praying, you can pray your way out of faith.  You keep bringing up the problems enough and the   difficulties, you'll lose the victory in your own  prayer. I was praying with a lady in Springfield,   Missouri. She stopped me at the end of a  young lady in college age and she said,   "Would you pray for me, pastor?" And I said,  "Yeah, I'll pray for you." And some ministers   were waiting there and and she [music] said, "So,  look, uh, I want I want you to pray because I'm   diabetic." And I said, "Okay, well, I'll pray."  She went, "No, no, listen. I also get migraine   headaches at night. Beside I have diabetes."  I said, "Okay, let's bring that. But listen,   I'm also praying for a husband and I need  a husband very badly." I said, "Okay,   let's pray." She said, "Yeah, but listen, my  right leg is bothering me right over here. Listen,   she brought up so many problems. I didn't have the  faith that the sun would come up the next day."

And that's we've all done that. You focus on the  problem so much that you forget who the answer   is. Are you following what I'm saying?  I'm not discouraging praying. God knows,   but there's a time to sing and just say,  "I know God's going to take care of this.   Praise God. He's going to do it." Can we put  our hands together? Say, "Amen." [applause] Sometimes by your own lips saying the problem  over and over again, like, "God didn't get it   the first time." No. Let look at me. He didn't get  it the first time you said it. He was sleeping.   He wasn't paying attention. Of course, he heard  it. In fact, before you call, he knows everything   you're going to pray about. So, put that [music]  thing out there and lay it before the Lord. But   sometimes when you feel that little nudge of I've  got you, just start to sing to the Lord. How many   times when they went to a battle, God just told  the armies in the Old Testament, just sing. And   when you're singing, I'll be setting ambushes and  defeating the enemy. Just sing with thanksgiving   in your heart to the Lord. [applause and music] So  maybe for someone today, you've been praying for   something over and over and over and again, but  you know in your heart, God's heard you. Listen,   Zechariah and Elizabeth, they had prayed for a  baby. God heard it. It didn't come right away.   John the Baptist came late, but the angel  said to them, "Your prayer has been heard."   What prayer? The prayer you gave 20 years ago.  I'm coming through. I'm going to answer you.  

We keep repeating repeating like if God doesn't do  it in a half hour that means he's not going to do   it. No, God has his own time to do these things.  Amen. [music] So maybe some of you that are just,   you know, you can actually if you pray and repeat  the problem, you can get depressed from your own   prayer. [music] I have gotten depressed from some  of my own prayers. I just listen to myself. It's   like God's not even alive. All I mention are the  problems. How about praising God for what he's   already done? How about praising God for his  promise? I'll never leave you nor forsake you.   How about praising God for when you call, I will  answer. [applause] Then it's time to just [music]   say and encourage each other. Amen. I don't want  the choir have to stand anymore. Anybody here say,   "Pastor, I want to start singing to the Lord.  I'm trusting him for something. I believe he's   going to come through. I know it. And I want to  just start singing. Get out of your seat. Come up   here. Come on. Come. I don't care if [music] two  of you come or 200. We're going to sing to the   Lord. We're going to encourage each other with  psalms and hymns and spiritual [music] songs.
